Donning guide OP-gowns

In these recommendations you will find guidance on how to don and doff an OP-gown.
1

Step 1

Take the sterile gown and step into an area where the gown can be opened without risk of contamination. Put both hands into the armholes on the folded gown. Hold the gown up and away from the body, and allow it to unfold completely. Ensure the gown does not touch the floor.
2

Step 2

Slip both hands and forearms into the armholes and sleeves. Keep hands at shoulder level and away from the body.
3

Step 3

If you are performing open glove donning, pull the cuff to the thumb level and grip it with your fingers from the inside. If you are performing closed glove donning, push the hands to the edge of the cuff.
4

Step 4

The circulating nurse should pull the gown over the shoulders, touching only the inside of the gown.
5

Step 5

The circulating nurse should arrange the hook.
6

Step 6

The circulating nurse should arrange the loop fixation.
7

Step 7

The circulating nurse should tie the inner belt of the gown.
8

Step 8

Then don the gloves. After gloving, grasp the belt card with both hands, separate the left outer belt from the belt card and keep the belt in the left hand.
9

Step 9

While holding the “STERILE” marked belt card side, hand the opposite card side to the circulating nurse. Then make a three-quarters turn to the left while the circulating nurse extends the outer belt to its full length.
10

Step 10

Retrieve the outer belt by pulling it out of the belt card held by the circulating nurse and tie it together with the other outer belt on the left-hand side.
