This is the Embra® way. It’s our way of caring for patients, caregivers and the future.
At Evercare Medical we strive to reduce our environmental impact and improve our sustainability performance, across our entire value chain by:
Analyze, measure, and contribute to reduction of emissions in line with Asker's climate targets.
Understand product emissions throughout the lifecycle and incorporate sustainable practices into product design and solutions.
Develop a product portfolio which can help our customers transition towards balancing cost, social equity and environmental protection for present and future generations.
Actively drive the sustainability agenda with our suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
Raising awareness across the organization and external stakeholders about sustainability and environmental impacts.
Continuously improve our Environmental Management System and ensure compliance with laws, regulations and Asker Management Standards.
Embra, derived from the word “embrace,” stands for a clear commitment to embrace both environmental and social sustainability. The Embra® mission is to develop responsible healthcare solutions focused on lowering environmental impact while delivering quality for patients and caregivers. In this way, we believe that we will make a real and positive difference in the world.
Embra represents the most ambitious standards within Evercare Medical. Our goal is to be the benchmark brand for sustainability, uncompromising quality, and long-term return on investment.
The UN Paris Agreement on climate change has committed the world to cutting emissions in half by 2030 and being carbon neutral by 2050. Hence, we are determined to work hard now. We will realize our mission by continuously finding both the raw materials and innovative production processes that help us achieve a lower environmental impact. Plus, we also hold every Embra® product to strong ethical codes and quality reviews throughout the entire value chain.
We have established that a Embra® product must meet either one or more of the following criteria, in order to be included in the Embra brand portfolio:
At least 20% CO2 reduction compared to other similar Evercare Medical products in terms of quality and/or functionality.
More than 50% recycled material: moving from virgin materials to other reusable sources.
Minimum 70% material from a renewable source, including both product and first level packaging.
Re-usable products, our goal is to become more circular by creating more reusable products.
External certification. Products that fulfil the criteria set by a select list of internationally recognised environmental certification bodies.
External certifications environmental certification bodies currently includes:
’Bra miljöval,’ (the Swedish ’Good Environmental Choice’ label)
EU Ecolabel – an independent body controlled by ISO 14024
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel (Svanenmärkt) – a counterpart to the EU Ecolabel.
This set of criteria is the framework for what we call Embra® Way.
It guides our work and it is how we help build a positive future through responsible, futureproof healthcare products and solutions.
Strong ethical code
Transparency throughout the value chain
Responsibly designed products
Use of innovative production processes and raw materials.
The UN’s Sustainability Goals are the framework for our progress. The UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development is “a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and planet, now and in the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.” Every Embra® product is directly linked to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Embra® AmpSnap ampoule breaker
Embra® AmpSnap is a mechanical ampoule breaker intended for glass ampoule opening. It is made as a simple hand-hold tool designed for easily opening glass ampoules with a simple snap action on the top of the ampoule. Upon opening, the glass splinters are incapsulated inside the AmpSnap and discarded together into the sharps container, thus reducing the risk of finger cuts. Embra® AmpSnap Ampoule Breaker is intended as a valuable tool for nurses, pharmacists and clinicians, featuring quick and precise ampoule opening capability. The ampoule breaker is a single-use, disposable plastic product available in two configurations: one designed for ampoule sizes ranging from 1–10 ml, and another suitable for ampoule sizes from 10–25 ml.
Made from 70% sugarcane ethanol, Embra® aprons provide the same high standards of performance as our other SELEFA® Bosco aprons but with a lower CO2 footprint. In fact, a life-cycle analysis (LCA)* shows that CO2 emissions from Embra® aprons are at least 20% lower than from our SELEFA® aprons.
In addition, sugarcane grows back. It’s a renewable material and lessens the burden on the world’s finite resources. We know that there is more to be done in order to achieve net-zero but the Embra® apron is a positive step in the right direction.
*The LCA was conducted in accordance with the internationally recognised greenhouse gas (GHG) protocols. The LCA has been reviewed by the Climate Neutral Group.
Embra Emmy Apron is a disposable apron made of fluid resistant LLDPE/LDPE that help to protect clothing from spills and splashes during medical procedures and cleaning tasks. It is also ideal for use in food preparations and in industrial applications. Embra Emmy is our next-generation apron in terms of material, where we, without compromising on quality, actively reduce the use of fossil raw materials. By embracing ISCC Plus certified bio-circular material – which is linked to waste and residues rather than intentionally cultivated sources – we contribute to material circularity and aim to reduce our negative impacts. This product is linked to 70% ISCC certified bio-circular material on a mass balance basis.
Our Embra Examination gloves, latex Flex are made from natural rubber latex, a biobased material harvested from rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis). Committed to ethical sourcing and responsible forestry, we use only Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified natural rubber latex.
The Embra® garbage bag is made from 50% recycled plastic in order to reduce its impact on the environment. With microplastics covering the planet and polluting our seas and oceans, the more recycled plastic used the better.
The predecessor to this bag was made from 100% virgin plastic. We have opted not to go beyond 50% recycled material at this stage to continue producing a bag that is thin, light and yet strong enough to handle large amounts of day-to-day rubbish.
The bag is designed with a star seal bottom giving extra strength to the bag but also providing room at the bottom so that it fits neatly into most dustbins, eliminating leaks and ensuring the rubbish is evenly distributed around the bag.
Approximately 80% of the raw materials used in the Embra range of surgical headwear come from viscose, which comes from a renewable source. The viscose comes from wood pulp extracted from trees in FSC-certified (forest stewardship council) forests. In other words, this material grows back sustainably. The more materials used from renewable sources, the more we reduce our reliance on oil-based materials like polyester.
High-performance comfortable headwear
In addition, viscose is soft, breathable and drapes easily making it comfortable to wear. The high-performance Embra® surgical headwear has been tested and found to meet the demanding requirements for safety as well as comfort, breathability and even skin irritability and toxicity.
Embra® nonwoven swabs with increased renewable source
While many standard nonwoven swabs today consist of 50% polyester and 50% viscose, we have chosen to increase the amount of material from a renewable resource (viscose) to 70%. By doing so, we have been able to develop a swab that is even more absorbent and that encompasses an increased amount of materials from renewable resources. This moves us away from using the world’s finite resources to materials that grows back.
Swabs that deliver highly absorptive capacity and speed
By using viscose instead of cotton gauze, we can remove several parts of the production process that cotton requires such as weaving, bleaching and drying. This enables us to create a high-performance swab with a lower environmental impact than our SELEFA® swabs. Moving away from cotton gauze also reduces the water usage requirements in production.
When nitrile gloves are produced, they go through a heating process called curing, which is when the gloves are heated to strengthen the material. This phase is the most energy intensive within the production process. Embra® gloves are using an innovative type of nitrile with a different chemical composition that requires lower temperatures in the heating phase.
Reduced climate impact
Our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) indicates that we can decrease the total energy usage in the production phase by 55%* with this new method and reduce the overall CO2 emissions by 27% per glove.** This is compared to an Evercare Medical SELEFA® Sense Blue Examination glove of comparable thickness.
Embra® Shoe cover is made of 50% recycled plastic to decrease its impact on the environment. With microplastics covering the planet and polluting our seas and oceans, the more recycled plastic used the better. Our previous covers have used 100% virgin plastic. These durable shoe covers have been tried and tested to include the maximum amount of recycled plastic without compromising on quality. The 50/50 mix of recycled and virgin plastic means healthcare staff can help reduce the environmental impact of their daily work by using shoe covers with more recycled plastic in them than there were in our previous covers.
Well designed, convenient and unique in colour
Embra® Shoe covers make a statement with their unique surgical green colour. They arrive packed in hygienic vacuum bags and are quick and easy to dispense. The shoe covers are designed to be easy to put on and take off, as they fit well over your shoes and help keep floors clean.
