Launching new Embra® products: Pioneering sustainable solutions in healthcare

Embra Pioneering Sustainable Solutions in Healthcare
Evercare Medical is expanding the Embra brand with new products that continue the mission to reduce the carbon footprint of healthcare services. Building on the success of the Embra Proceed glove, which contributed to a significant reduction (27%*) in CO₂‑equivalent emissions, the latest Embra® additions aim to combine innovation, quality and sustainability.  The new products support healthcare providers who want to deliver high‑quality care while actively reducing environmental impact and aligning with broader ESG standards.

What new products have been added to the Embra® line?

The newest Embra® products are designed to support environmental stewardship without compromising performance.

Embra® Emmy Apron

This apron is our next-generation apron in terms of material, where we, without compromising quality, actively reduce the use of fossil raw materials. By embracing ISCC Plus certified bio-circular mass–balanced material which is linked to waste and residues rather than intentionally cultivated sources – we contribute to material circularity. This product is linked to 70% ISCC certified bio-circular material on a mass balance basis.

Embra® AmpSnap

This ampoule breaker enhances safety and operational efficiency. Composed of over 70% biobased plastic, it reduces dependence on fossil fuels, and it encapsulates glass splinters, minimizing injury risks during ampoule opening.

Embra® Examination glove, LATEX Flex

Crafted from FSC-certified natural rubber latex, these gloves offer flexibility and durability. The FSC-label signifies that latex has been harvested to benefit communities, respect wildlife, and the environment. By using responsibly sourced latex we support sustainable forestry.

Embra® sterile nonwoven swabs

Made from 70% viscose, a renewable material, these non-woven swabs provide high absorbency and sterility, suitable for sensitive medical environments. The non-woven sterile swabs reduce impact compared to equivalent cotton-based products **.

Updated Embra® Apron Bosco

Featuring a refined design without the green tint, these aprons are composed of over 70% bio-based polyethylene. The removal of the green tint also improves aesthetic appeal, and a life-cycle analysis (LCA)*** shows that CO₂e-emissions from Embra aprons are at least 20% lower than from our SELEFA® aprons.

How do these products support healthcare providers?

The Embra® series is intended not only to reduce environmental impact but also to empower healthcare providers to deliver sustainable care. By choosing Embra® products, hospitals and clinics can access solutions that support infection prevention, operational efficiency and patient safety, while at the same time reducing environmental footprints within their product portfolios.

The range is developed to meet demanding medical requirements and to fit into existing clinical routines, so that sustainability improvements can be realized without compromising quality.

How is Embra® produced and what is the sustainability approach?

Embra® stands for a commitment to environmental and social responsibility. The products are designed to minimize CO₂ emissions and resource use by incorporating renewable or responsibly sourced raw materials and by focusing production on energy and material efficiency.

Life cycle thinking and rigorous quality checks are central to the development process. Data from life cycle assessments (LCAs) are used to understand where emissions occur and how design choices can reduce impact, while still meeting the high standards required in clinical practice.

Where can I find more information?

Healthcare professionals who want to explore the Embra® range in more detail can:

Key takeaways

Expanded sustainable product range

New Embra® products build on the brand’s commitment to reducing CO₂‑equivalent emissions and resources in healthcare while maintaining quality and performance.

Support for responsible healthcare delivery

The range is designed to help providers meet clinical needs and sustainability goals at the same time, aligning with environmental and social responsibility targets.

Life‑cycle‑based approach

Production is informed by life cycle assessments and careful material choices, focusing on lowering environmental impact across the product life cycle while upholding rigorous quality standards.

* Our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) indicates that we can decrease the total energy usage in the production phase by 55% with this new method and reduce the overall CO₂e-emissions by 27% per glove. This is compared to an Evercare Medical SELEFA®- Sense Blue Examination glove of comparable thickness.

** By using viscose instead of cotton gauze, we can remove several parts of the production process that cotton requires such as weaving, bleaching and drying. This enables us to create a high-performance swab with a lower environmental impact than our SELEFA® swabs. Moving away from cotton gauze also reduces the water usage requirements in production. *** The LCA was conducted in accordance with the internationally recognised greenhouse gas (GHG) protocols. The LCA has been reviewed by the Climate Neutral Group.
