Evercare Medical has published a new Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the evercare® XP Standard OP-Gown, marking the next step in its work to bring transparent, independently verified environmental data to the healthcare sector. Following the company’s first EPD for medical face masks, this new declaration shows that the work is continuing to build momentum, with more products environmental performance moving into a structured and evidence-based declaration.
This EPD covers the evercare® XP Standard OP-Gown, sterile, REF 2517. It is a single-use surgical gown designed to provide a barrier between the user and the patient in the operating room and is intended for dry surgical procedures with no or very limited exposure to fluids.
This declaration provides transparent, comparable information about a product’s environmental performance based on a life cycle assessment. For healthcare providers and procurement teams, this means access to robust environmental data that can support more informed decisions and strengthen the role of sustainability alongside clinical and economic criteria.
With this publication, Evercare Medical builds on the foundation established by its first EPD and continues its commitment to transparency, life cycle thinking and substantiated environmental claims. It is another important step in making verified environmental product data available for more medical disposables.
Registered in The International EPD System as EPD-IES-0025425:001, the EPD can be found here. It is owned by Evercare Medical AB and developed in accordance with ISO 14025:2006.
The EPD is based on a cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment, covering the product’s environmental impact from raw material extraction and manufacturing through distribution and end-of-life. This is another important milestone in Evercare Medical’s ongoing sustainability journey.
The upstream stage is the primary contributor to the climate change impact, responsible for 68.9% of the total result. This stage includes the production of raw materials (51.7%) and packaging materials (17.1%), along with auxiliary production (0.1%). Waste treatment of the disposed product and packaging is the next largest contributor, accounting for 17.6% of the total impact. Transportation of the finished surgical gowns, including international maritime shipping, represents 10.1% of the total impact. For WDP, the main impacts occur in the upstream stage. Other processes not illustrated in the chart collectively account for less than 0.01% of the total.
